A Lifelong Passion

Growing up, Tony loved to watch the activities on construction sites. During the summer after 7th grade, Tony’s father was looking for a contractor to add a storage room to their existing garage.  Amazingly, Tony talked his father into allowing him to build it. Tony spent several days at the library researching foundations, framing, roofing, etc. – every “How To” building book he could find, he read. After the city said not to bother with a permit (things were different in 1959), he began the project.

“I poured the foundation using coat hangers tightly twisted into half-inch rods for rebar. Dad came home from work to pay the concrete delivery bill. He got there early and insisted on watching me finish the concrete.  I will never forget him leaning against the fence with this big smile on his face. To this day I am still thankful that my Dad was willing to take that chance. After raising two kids of my own, I now know why he was smiling.”

That was Tony’s first project and his father was very pleased. From that point forward he has been in love with building.  His summer jobs were construction-oriented and his college and graduate school education were all pursued with the intention of building homes. Tony McClung has built many of the finest homes in the Dallas area as well as large homes in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Colorado. For the past twenty five years he has limited his work to only one client at a time, giving the client his complete attention throughout the project. His favorite projects are those that he designs as well as builds.
